UPDATED 4/20/17: USA Today has released a partial list of the stores that are closing so you don’t have to scrape through rue21’s store search feature.

No stranger to financial hardship, teen clothing company rue21 is shuttering 400 stores across the US. Rumors flew over the last few weeks that they might be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, like many other struggling retailers have in the past three and a half months, but it appears they are closing stores to ease the financial burden of unpaid debt that will come due in 2020. The company confirmed this announcement, first broken Read more

Whether or not the apparel retailer will be safe from bankruptcy is still up in the air, and their tenability as an online-only retailer is unclear. Bebe will continue its restructuring plan under the guidance of B. Riley & Co.

Chocolate bunnies in a row on pink background.

According to a survey by the National Retail Federation, Easter 2017 is going to be record-breaking. The survey (conducted among 7,411 consumers) projects that shoppers will spend $18.4 billion, beating last year’s record of $17.3 billion with a 6%  increase, which works out to about $152 spent per person on average. The reason? NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay says, “Most consumers have almost an entire extra month to shop for Easter this year, and by the time the holiday comes the weather should be significantly warmer than last Easter.”

Fashion is totally subjective. You either love new trends and bold styles or you don’t. Because it’s spring the new trends are coming out in full force. Sometimes what is in style tends to be questionable to the average person. We recently wrote an article on the “Clear Knee Mom Jeans” and the reviews were brutal. Fashion is constantly changing, and change isn’t always a good thing.

Do you ever think “I can do that!” and make your style look effortless? Whatever you do, think about your style choices so that when you look back you don’t think, “Why did … Read more

If you shopped online at GameStop between September 2016 and the first week of February 2017, you might want to keep an eye on your credit card. The struggling games and electronics retailer has apparently been hit by a hacking attack that might have compromised thousands of customers’ credit card data, possibly including CVV2 codes. Security news blog KrebsOnSecurity looked into the issue and broke the news last Friday.

“GameStop recently received notification from a third party that it believed payment card data from cards used on the GameStop.com website was being offered for sale on a … Read more

This article has been edited to reflect updates in hhgregg’s status. Updated 4/10/17.

Hhgregg has failed to find a buyer and will be liquidating all 220 stores. You may have already noticed if you have a local hhgregg, as the liquidation sales began this past weekend. Approximately 5,000 layoffs will occur over this liquidation, and the closings will be completed by the end of May. Their website has not been altered to reflect this, still advertising their Spring Dining Event sale, but we have reports that in-store liquidation prices are only up to 30% off. If you purchased anything at Harbor Freight Tools between April 8, 2011, and December 15, 2016, you might be eligible for a rebate. Harbor Freight disputes this charge, but they still settled.

Home Depot‘s in hot water again after accidentally publishing spreadsheets with about 8,000 customers’ transaction and personal data onto their website. While no financial information was leaked — like the 2014 data breach of 56 million Home Depot customers’ information — the data did include the names, mailing addresses, email addresses and information chronicling customer complaints. The leak was anonymously reported to Consumerist last week.

One of the most alarming aspects of this leak is how simply it occurred. In what appears to be a mistake, the spreadsheets were published on a Home Depot page that was able to be

Being a part-time YouTuber, I kinda have to make it my business to know what’s coming up in the next year so I can budget for new games to record.
